And the beat goes on.

The guitar making will be on it’s own dedicated web site very soon.

I have bought 9 sound boards and 2 sets of back and sides (rosewood).

I appear to have got a nasty cough and running nose… probably a cold.

I am all keyed up and ready to build 2 very different guitars.

The fret boards.

The fret jig has been improved, I have added a kind of viceĀ arrangementĀ and it works really well. The vice holds the fret board very rigidly. I have added a couple more bevelled pegs to make sure there is no chance of the fret board moving whilst cutting the fret slots.

Here is the key for the parts numbered on the fret board jig.

1. Vice handle.
2. Fret selection key. (A 4mm drill bit)
3. Bevelled locking pegs to ensure a perfect 90 degrees across the fret board.
4. Bevelled peg ensuring the fret board is hard against the jig bed.
5. Bevelled peg to ensure the fret board cannot move on the back draw cut.
6. The holes in the perspex sheet are the fret positions and lock to the drill bit.
7. Spring clip to hold down the fret board.
8. The depth adjuster on the saw blade.

The jig is easy to use and gives me the confidence to get on with the cutting without having to wonder if anything has moved. Also it is better than holding the fret board in place with double sided sticky.

Today I cut and smoothed two fret boards, one for the steel string guitar and the other for the classical. I am making the classical fret board only slightly larger than the steel string. The classical guitar is very much experimental. I am making educated guesses about how things should be,. The reason for this is because my son, the person that the classical guitar is for, wants me to get it closer to how a steel string guitar would be. Effectively the classical will be a bit of one and a bit of the other. Actually I am looking forward to making all the decisions as I go along. If something doesn’t quite work out then I will remake parts as required to make it work.
